TESD BARMM joins celebration of 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women
Cotabato City— Nov. 24, 2020 — TESD BARMM joins the kickoff ceremony for the start of the 18-day Campaign to end violence against women held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex at BARMM Government Center, Cotabato City. The theme for this year’s celebration is “VAW Free-Community Starts with me.”
To ensure the commitment and efforts to end violence against women and children, the campaign aims to: promote awareness on the forms of violence women and girls experience, provide information on the laws protecting women and girls, feature VAW-related services that people can access and avail; and promote the strengthening of a prevention and response system on VAW and gather public support for the campaign.
The 2nd state of the Bangsamoro Women Address was the highlight of the event delivered by MP Helen M. Rojas, the chairperson of Bangsamoro Women’s Commission – BARMM. During her speech she gave a report on the status of the Bangsamoro Women and the status of women on peace and security.
In line with this, the Technical Education and Skills Development played an important role in giving the women in the vulnerable areas of the region assistance through livelihood programs and trainings. Some beneficiaries of the livelihood programs are from the Bangsamoro Islamic Women Auxiliary Brigade (BIWAB) of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front who finished their 20-day training on dressmaking and received sewing machines composed of 3 electronic and 4 manual machines for each battalion.
With the Bangsamoro Government’s continuing efforts toward gender-responsive governance and with the Gender and Development (GAD) code undergoing enhancement through assistance from The Asia Foundation and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, a VAW-free Bangsamoro can be achieved.
