Training For The IPs In Basilan
Twenty-two (22) members of the Indigenous Peoples from Brgy. Boheyawas, Lamitan are set to undergo skills training on Agriculture specifically on Support Horticulture Leading to Agri Crops Production NC I under the 2021 Bangsamoro Scholarship Program for TVET .
During the Training Induction Program held last September 29, 2021 at the Basilan Skills Development Academy (BASDA) in Lamitan City, Provincial Director of MBHTE-TESD Basilan, Muida S. Hataman, stated that IPs are just one of the many priority groups the agency is looking into as part of its commitment to serve and reach out to the under-served communities in the Province. PD Hataman hopes that the skills training will be beneficial considering that most if not all of the trainees are also landowners from the mentioned Barangay.
Chief Development Officer III of the National Commission of Indigenous People, Czarina Mae Malun, also pointed that aside from Barangay Bohe Yawas, the NCIP has 12 other IP communities in Basilan Province and is looking forward to more scholarship slots from TESDA so that all the identified communities are served and provided with appropriate training interventions.
Tribal Leader Sammy Gabilan, who was also present during the TIP, expressed support and appreciation for the opportunity given to their family members. He assured the full participation of the trainees and committed to assist in the monitoring of the skills training implementation.
